Chris Robshaw failed to see the big picture

0

Let’s be honest. England took the wrong option.

With minutes to go they chose to kick for the corner rather than let Owen Farrell, who has his best kicking boots on, kick a not too difficult goal.

They did so because they failed to see the big picture. The goal was not to win the game but to progress out of the group stages. A draw would have left them to play Australia on Saturday knowing that a battered Wales (who with so many injuries will probably have to field Max Boyce) have to play a strong, rested Fiji side on Thursday. Remember that England still have Uruguay to come and they have leaked 119 points against Australia and England.

Not only did Chris Robshaw choose the wrong option but the pack also failed to execute it well. Throwing to the front of the lineout was much easier for Wales to defend.

So what lessons to be taken for those looking to get a win for their business by using Information Technology?

  • Always be driven by the big picture. What is the long term win the business is seeking?
  • Take time to properly identify and assess the options and the risks
  • Choose suppliers who are able to deliver and are ‘on form’
  • Manage the execution carefully
